Necessary
Mayhem launched in London, April 2006 with a promise of being totally
independent of record company involvement allowing total creative control for
not only the label manager but also the lyrical and musical directions of the
various artists. We are now proudly one of the biggest reggae record label
across the UK and Europe.
Dubbed as the UK's answer to King Jammys, Curtis
Lynch is the main producer and label founder. Lynch's experience of working for
and with major and independent companies is a huge reason why this label has
sustained success.
Having
worked with some of the biggest artists in the world including the Gorillaz,
Alicia Keys, Etana, Tippa Irie, Shola Ama, Brinsley Forde formerly of Aswad, and legendary producer Gussie Clarke (of Shabba's 'Mr Lover Man' fame) has seen
Necessary Mayhem selling huge amounts of records and has consistently been
hitting the number 1 slot in the reggae charts with every release for the last
2 years which is also why All of our vinyl releases have flown out of the shops
to become consistent best sellers.
Modeled
off of labels such as Coxsone, Jammys & Music Works to name but a few of
the greats, Necessary Mayhem is heading in that direction with the help of some
major contributions from some industry greats ranging from musicians, DJ's, mix
engineers, mastering and cutting, and of course artists.
The
focus of the label is to make great music and in so doing make great artiste
who can inspire another generation of people to keep the music alive so due to the overwhelming success
of Necessary Mayhem, we have now been able to expand and as well
as Necessary Mayhem we have now opened two new labels 'Necessary Classics' and
'Maroon'.
"This music is the poor people music, a running commentary of what is going on in society whether it's good or bad, music makes the world listen." - Curtis Lynch
